More impressions from Alaska
During summer 1997 I had the chance to work for eight weeks in a project observing Peregrine Falcons in Alaska.
What you can find here, are some images from this wildlife adventure.
This is a picture of the pond, where I found Nehalennia
irene; new for Alaska. It was nice to go swimming there, but the water was very cold!
On almost every sandbank in the Tanana River was a Spotted Sandpiper. The both most common
warblers were the Yellow and the
Yellow-rumped Warbler.
My first trip on my own through the wilderness of Alaska was to the shore of
Lake George.
From our camp in the middle of the river we had a great view in the evening and at "work" on
a free-running river system. From this place
we observed the falcons at their breeding
cliff for hours. We moved
observationsites and camps by using a powerful motorboat, strong enough to struggle the
Tanana.
But there are also some
peaceful places in this wild river.
Being outside all day long makes you feel
hungry - already at breakfast!
